Just five months later and the decision is final. I move out of my flat and leave for Atlanta, Georgia on April 15th 2013 (where I hope to run into a few walkers?). Three months away, damn, that’s pretty intense!
Throughout this journey I will be blogging. Updating you guys with useful travel tips, tools I’m using, devices saving me money, and whatever else I stumble upon along the way.
Ok, So Here’s The Deal
Literally. There’s a deal in place with my business partner. If after 3 months of my being away all is well with our business, things are still running smoothly and we are both happy with the situation; then I keep travelling.
If not. I must return, look at what has been going wrong, restore peace, calm and order (lol)… then set off again at a later date.
As you can imagine operating a business is not an easy task in itself. Let alone when it’s your first one, you’re still learning and is co-managed by two people on separate continents. We have many websites to maintain, update and market for – all the while building new ones. There have been a lot of logistical nightmare-ish tasks to work around and many are still in the ‘figuring it out’ stage but more or less things should be cool.
Regardless, I’m confident of the situation and look forward to some great adventures. Of course, while keeping my mind on track and getting my work done.
I will still be working every, single, day!
So, What’s The Plan Bro?
Ehhhhh… there’s no plan! I tell a lie, there’s a very basic plan. It goes something like this…
1) Hit up the USA and stay with my buddy John for a while. This is a great move for me as it means I can begin exploring whilst still having a base-camp. This will save me LOTS of money. I can acclimatise to working in a casual environment away from my team, with a 5 hour difference. This is a smooth transition and should help a little, rather than being thrown directly in the deep end!
2) Whilst working, chilling with my buddy and getting used to this new very Skype orientated lifestyle – I’ll be exploring the country, visiting other friends, making new ones and generally getting out there. Awesome.
3) A week or so before my 3 month visa expires, entering July time. I will be in talks with my business partner about whether it’s necessary for me to come back for a while or not.
4) If not, the plan is to head down to Costa Rica, Puerto Rico or the Caribbean Islands. The awesome thing about the Caribbean is most of the islands are part of the British common wealth. This means that between the British Virgin Islands, the Grenadines, Barbados, Antigua and a few more – I’m able to dot between them for two whole years if I wanted to. I’m thinking a month or so on each will do. Check out VisaHQ.co.uk for information on travel visas. Very helpful!
5) That’s about it…
I won’t have: any flights home booked, any idea when I’m coming back and hopefully, I won’t much care.
I will have: a huge bag, my laptop and hopefully, a smile on my face.
Why Can I Go? And You Can’t!
You can. Until now, like me, you’ve just chosen not to. You’ve looked for every excuse there is to put it off, put it off, put it off. Well, why not start taking all those negatives, those reasons you can’t go and turn them into obstacles.
Obstacles can be overcome, broken down into small, manageable steps.
“The elevator to success is out of order. You’ll have to use the stairs… one step at a time.” – Joe Girard
I don’t even know that this trip will work. Hell I could have to come back after a month for some reason or another. However, I’m willing to give it a try and iron out the creases.
It’s just another challenge, so what else is new? Haha.
Let the first of a thousand steps be stepped today. For otherwise tomorrow, you’re already behind.
